Okay, so I'm new to the VCD thing (and this message board).
I used Nero to create a test VCD with 4 or 5 tracks and a simple menu (Nero is amazing, it even converted a WMV file). So everything seemed to go well, and I received no errors. Afterwards, the VCD looked like others that I've seen, with nothing out of the ordinary. I then attempted to PLAY it somewhere. I tried using ATI's MMC Video CD Player, but got a message that it couldn't read v2.0 VCDs (!?!). Then I tried a program I got from Cnet (QuickVCD I think - it just modified WMP6 when opened). When opened, the play buttons were all ghosted out, and it didn't seem to recognize the disc. I then tried it on my dad's DVD player. NO DISC. I lastly just tried opening the .dat files in WMP, and I could play those, but that defeats the purpose of a VCD, particularly when you want a menu.
I can understand if the DVD player didn't work. I looked my dad's player up on the compatability list and it said it couldn't read CDR's, so I've bought some CDRW's and I'll test those out tonight. But is there any other reason?
Also, if I burn the VCD onto the CDRW and it doesn't work, I'll be able to erase it, right? This probably sounds stupid, but I haven't worked with CDRW's a lot.
Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Hrm...
I don't know about the software VCD players. When I make VCD's or SVCD's I only play them on my DVD player. If it doesn't work on your dads standalone DVD player..then most likely the DVD player is incompadible with a VCD.
About the CDRW question. You can erase a CDRW by going into your CD burning program. I'm not sure which menu it is under, possibly tools, (i'm on my old computer right now b/c my good one is being fixed) but then u just go to erase disk. I usually do a quick erase which only takes 4 minutes for me. Or you can do a full erase which takes I don't know how long..depending on your drive speed.

Thanks for the response.
I checked the compatability list on this site and it said my dad's DVD player wasn't able to play CDR, but was able to play CDRW, so that would be an obstacle anyway. It's just that none of the disks I've made have worked in any player at all (except WMP w/dat files).
Anyway, I'll try making one with the CDRW tonight and play it on my dad's player, then I'll give up
