    i have a wintv tuner card and im trying to capture to mpg using virtualdub mod , but i cant find a mpg codec that vdubmod will let me select.... any ideas?

    Yep, there really isn't any for MPEG. Well, actually there IS, but it isn't free- at least not for MPEG2 encoding. Plus, it doesn't get high marks for encoding quality.

    In other words, VDUB's not gonna cut it for your requirements.

    YMPEG is the only one I know of that can be used within vdub, but as Soopafresh points out, it ain't free.

    ffdshow as does MPEG1/2 encoding, including to an external mpg file.

    ffdshow uses libavcodec for MPEG encoding, so the quality should be the same as other libavcodec based encoders. Really using a VfW app for mpg encoding is not the best idea though.
