Problems once burned with fast forwarding

I have 5 seperate clips in wmv and mpeg and avi formats of home movies from recent family trips. Now once I compress them and burn them on a DVD-R disc when I put it in my DVD to play (Toshiba 3860) it plays perfectly but when I try to fast forward or advance the currnt clip it automatically skips to the next chapter. What am I doing wrong or how do I correct this problem?

how do you convert and author? what tools?

Sounds to me like it's the way you're using your remote - I have one DVD player that skips chapters if you press it, but if you hold it down for two seconds, then it seeks at 2X, press it again and it seeks at 4X, and so on.
