Just wondering if there was a stand alone digital video recorder that I could output from a DV cam using the SVHS output (firewire would also work)?

Apparently my DV cam may not be able to record due to a damaged head so instead of repairing it for a lot of cash, I was going to use it as a surveillance camera for our property. But in order to record and to avoid using VHS, I'd like to be able to send it to a digital recorder (DVD would be fine if the quality was good enough). The recorder would need to be able to input SVHS type or Firewire.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Sorry if this is the wrong topic/forum, but this sort of crosses a couple topics into one.

Obviously if the cost of a stand alone digital recorder was real high +$150, then I may go with the repair after all.

Thanks for your help!!!

UPDATE

Ok, it seems there are some machines that do what I'd like... would you steer me away from the Cyberhome 1600 DVD Recorder if picture quality is important to me?

Are there huge differences in MPEG2 recording quality between DVD Recorder Brand Names?

Thanks again!
