  1. Hi,

I was trying to convert a VOB -> DVD. The VOB claims to be mpeg-2 720x480, 9800kbps, 29.97fps. I usually use dvd->dvd4, but in this particular occasion I need a subtitle track.

    Try #1:
I selected "DVD mpeg2enc" settings. The Video tab had 720x480 NTSC at 29.97 at 4000 kbit/s. I added VOB subtitles under the Filters tab and decode with mplayer on the Options tab. The result had audio well out of synch with the video. The subtitles and video were perfect however.

    Try 2:
I selected DVD mpeg2enc settings. I changed the Video tab to 720x480 NTSC FILM (23.976). I also selected "Set 3:2" and decode with mplayer. The result was audio, video and subtitles all perfect. But, in my DVD player, the video "jitters" up and down (on my Mac it looks fine). Reading through past forum posts, the claim was this could be related to interlacing.

    Try 3:
DVD mpeg2enc, NTSC FILM, "Set 3:2" and mplayer on Options, and Deinterlace on Filters. Still jitters on my DVD player.

dvd->dvd4 makes DVD's that play just fine in my DVD player. Does this make sense to anyone? Thanks for any help!

  2. The 2/ settings seem the right ones, however there is perhaps some other issue concerning your player. Did you try to encode with "DVD ffmpeg"?
