    Hi!

I have ripped some DVD's, and tried to backup them with DVD Shrink. I have noticed that some of these videos has approximately the same size (about 8 GB). However, some of them can be backuped in single-layer size, but others cannot! DVD Shrink informs that it passes the limit!

    1) How is that possible?
    2) How can I solve this problem (I didn't want to lose menus, extras etc).

    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

  2. If you don't want to cut the menus and the extra you can cut at least the audio track in other languages (usually I use original language and Italian), and cut the DTS track if there is a one. I don't love to cut the extra too, but with some movies you lose a lot of quality.

Shrink it once to a hard-disk folder. Then, shrink the result. Then, try to be satisfied with the quality you end up with ... which might not be easy. You might also try to use ReJig instead of DVDshrink (assuming you've already decrypted the DVD). I'm not certain whether or not ReJig has a shrinkage limit. If it doesn't, you might be able to do a single shrink ... and it might take less time and look better, too. I've only tried ReJig once. And, it did shrink faster than DVDshrink with the result appearing the same or better than DVDshrink's attempt.

Sometimes DVD's (especially Music DVD's) have a PCM Audio Track that is Huge and can't be shrunk down. Delete that and the DVD will shrink.

if you wish to keep and menu and dont mind losing the extras, use titlesetblanker or vobblanker to strip out the extras and dvd shrink to compress.

Another option is to backup to two disks with all menu, extras and no loss of quality.

As others have said, Shrink just has its limits. Cut something out or find yet another way.

No doubt. I got in a hurry on a couple of my backups and did Full Disc (since that's default) and one was missing about the last third of the movie and the other one ended during the credits. I wondered why they had the FBI warnings at the beginning.

I usually cut out everything that is not needed. All that I want is the movie, in a language that I can understand.

Shrink doesn't crop, so you didn't lose any of the movie due to something DVD Shrink did. The only way you can make Shrink edit a movie to fit is in re-author mode, and with a right-click. Not something you do by accident.

I assume that you are talking to me since I don't see anyone mentioning cropping of a movie.

Like I stated above, I accidently used the default full Disc Mode (these were some of my first back-ups) but the original movies were too big to fit on a 4.7 GB disc. One was Gods and Generals which is 3 hours and 49 minutes and the other I believe was The Sum of All Fears which is 2 hours and three minutes long (the three minutes must have been the missing credits).

Not sure why I didn't get an error message telling me that the movies were too big to put on one disc in DVDshrink or that I needed to use re-author mode.

  11. if it falls behind a ratio, I think is 50%, it won't shrink. cut as much as you don't need.
