  1. Up now, I have converted quite a number of DivX videos to DVD using TMPGEnc Express and TMPGEnc DVD Author with very good results.
Now I have a DivX video that after the conversion into DVD disk, when played (with PowerDVD) the images are "discontinuous" (slow images are jolly acceptable, fast images are jerky, they "jump", one frame the actor is here and next frame the actor is there) and the audio is "sort of noise".
After that, I tried to play the DivX video itself (before the conversion) with PowerDVD and I got same results: images are jerky and audio is "sort of noise".
Obviously, this DivX video I got has been created with a codec not present in my computer (nor in the capabilities of TMPGEnc).
Has anybody anything to sggest me about a (hopefully freeware) software that is capable of telling me with which codec has been used to create my DivX video?
Any suggestion on "comprehensive" video/audio codec to install on my PC in order to allow TMPGEnc to decode ANY video format?
    Thanks

Yes, it is definitely some sort of DivX, because I do indeed see the images, they are jerky and sound is sort of noise.
I have just downloaded gspot and avicodec, I will have them to inspect my video and then I will post the results here.
    Thanks so much.

Here we are. I launched GSpot with my video and I got the following info:
    Stream Type and A/V interleave
    Type OpenDML aVI IMRR 1.00
    I/L 1 vid frame (40 ms), p=522 Split: No
    Video
    Codec: 4CC: xvid Name: XviD
Stat 4 compatible codecs installed (XviD MPEG-4 codec, DivX Decoder Filter, DivX Decoder Filter, XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder)
    Runtime 59:08 (88,696 fr) x:y 576x240 (2.40:1) [=12:5]
    Bitrate 1513 kb/s FPS 25.000 Qf 0.438 bits/pixel
    Audio
    Stream 1>
    Codec
    Name 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Stat 3 compatible codecs installed
    Bitrate 136 kb/s (68/ch, stereo) VBR Fs 44100 Hz
Now, if anybody understands something about the above data, I would appreciate so much.
It remains the fact that I launched DivX player with such a video and it did not protest, DivX player lets me watch the video (and listen to the audio) but again, it remains also the fact that I see everything jerky, the more the moving characters are moving faster, the more jerky I see them, on still images, I can see them perfectly.
    Anybody got any idea?
Looks like I am playing the video with a "wrong" frame rate or so...
    Thanks

VSo DivX2DVD. Drop your divx file in the program. Click on Convert. An hour later you have a VIDEO_TS folder ready to be burn onto DVD.
It's free, it's great and it's never let me down (as long as your input file is not corrupted...)

I see MP3 VBR audio listed. This is a major problem with TMPGEnc encoder. (And many others.) Put the file into VirtualDub and save the audio out as a WAV. Use that WAV file for the audio selection for TMPGEnc. That should solve your problem.

For converting XVID or DIVX to MPG, I always check video files first with Gspot or AVIcodec to check for VBR audio. When you open it with Vdub it will warn you also. VSO usually works with VBR, but not always.

I downloaded DivXtoDVD. I converted my video file. I burned it into a DVD with Nero. Then I played the disk with PowerDVD.
Perfect. All the problems about "sort of wrong frame rate" have disappeared. The DVD plays perfectly. Thank you very much indeed.
What a paysoftware (TMPGEnc) failed to do properly, a freeware did an oustanding job. Incredible!!!!!! Thanks again indeed!!!!!
