  1. Alright, I am quite frusturated at this point. I have winxp with sp2 installed. The computer will not detect the camera when connected. I doesn't do anything, not even a notice of an unrecognized device.

I have a firewire hardrive, and an ipod that both work fine with the firewire port.

When plugged in, the camera says "DV IN" so I'm assuming its not the cable.

I have tried two different cameras (TRV33, VX2000), both of which work on other computers.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate hearing them.

  2. based on my experienced when am using win2k i don't hav any problem on my digital camcorder, but when i used winxp sp1 problem starts. there is a bug in winxp sp1 regarding the detection of digital camcorder, but they said it has been resolved on sp2. so i updated my winxp os in sp2, now it works properly. since u already updated ur winxp, try this, unplugged ur camcorder to ur pc, go to device manager, uninstall anything that has exclamation mark in yellow color, then reboot. then plugged ur camcorder

  4. Hey,

I was facing a problem with my Camcorder (JVC GR-D30 mini-DV) and the firewire port. I wrote the solution in another post ... but here it is : I noticed that my Camcorder just works with some cables ... the problem is incompatibility with the cable ... so, I tell you to test with the number of cables you can ...

    C YA !

"DV-In" is a good sign that the hardware connection is there but it could still be a cable problem. I suspect problems with your IEEE-1394 port driver. Is this a motherboard port or a add-in PCI IEEE-1394 card? What software are you using to control the camera? Start with something simple like WinDV.

A IEEE-1394 port can be used in many modes, with DV camera control being only one. The firewire HDD is being controlled by the Windows OS. Ipod has its own driver. 1394 networking uses still different drivers.

If you have multiple devices connected, your application software may need device selection in the preferences menus. Also applications usually have some checkbox to enable/disable device control.

The TRV33 and VX2000 should work no problem. Try to update your IEEE-1394 port drivers or worse case, add a new 1394 PCI card and install from scratch. A modern card should be auto detected by XP.

XP SP2 (and SP1) are working fine here with many camcorders including the VX-2000.

  7. Check out these links:

Geez...I hope that last link works

If your capture computer is not connected to the interenet, I would suggest rolling back to SP1 since SP2 was mainly for security issues.

Maybe it's just a simple matter of that particular model of camcorder not allowing DV firewire out, just firewire in. That's not uncommon.

This may not be applicable, but I used to have a card with four connectors, 3 external on the back plate and one internal on the card itself. The internal connector was connected to the same place as the top-most connector on the back. A small slip of paper was included that said that the internal connector and top connector could not be used at the same time because they were really the same port.

  10. The problem your having sounds like a driver situation.I am running windows xp and had the same problem.I just went into the add new hardware in the control panel and clicked on my camcorder name and it went and found the new driver and now it works. If you want you can also put your disc that your camcorder came with and install it off there too.
