About DVP642/37

I have Dvp642/37 ver 1109 with E . And I am curious did enyone tried to put on this DVD player the software for DVP 630 which i think is 0112? Because I know that they are similar but i don't want to break my DVD player. The reason I want to use this software is because of the bulgarian subtitles which are include with this software.

you can change your version in the player itself (no need to install anything) and get different language sets, change it to european version.
If bulgarian use cyrillic (KOR-something) then you should have no problem.

Yes, I put the 630 0112 firmware update on my 642/37 and it works fine.

I pressed on the remote: 5,6,9,OK
and then looked at the versions available for this firmware.

They are:

630/00,02,04,05
632/00,02,04,05
640K/69,75,FK
642/17,37


If you have one of these versions, it should be fine to update.

The important thing about this firmware is that the subtitles have a semi-transparent background which makes reading them much easier. It has also been mentioned that it corrects the bug which kept the angle indicator symbol always on the screen.

If you have a different version of Philips dvd player than one of those above, you shouldn't put in the firmware or you will get the 630/00 by default.

0112 works fine on the 642/17 (it didn't reset the player to a different model, but it did reset the region hack, and all the display and sound settings.) It definitely does NOT fix the angle bug, though. (Or seem to do much of anything else.)

DereX888 - the original poster is from America, so your suggestion isn't really an option for us. Our players only do English, Spanish and French. Also, his question has to do with subtitles.

The DVP-642 always supported Cyrillic. However, it only supported the bizarre ISO-8859-5 encodings for external subtitles. The newer firmware supports CP-1251 subtitles, which is a format easily produced on a Windows PC. ISO-8859-5 is so old, I can't tell you anything about it except that no one uses it anymore. I am not aware of any letters in Bulgarian that the regular Cyrillic support didn't cover. Doesn't Bulgarian use exactly the same letters as Russian? My Russian is pretty good, so good that in fact I can sometimes make sense of Bulgarian and I can't think of any letters that would be missing. The only magical thing about the new firmware is the CP-1251 support. It certainly was possible to see Bulgarian subtitles before, but they had to be in ISO-8859-5 format
