  1. Hello I am getting ready to get a new computer and I have just gotten a Nec 3520a drive to go with it and also I will be putting my Pioneer 105 with it and was wondering by putting the Pioneer as the master and the Nec as the slave should Windows Xp recognize both drives as dvd burners drives and will I still be able to burn both cd-r's and dvd-r's etc with both on there like that? I have read that some people have problems having two dvd burners on there computers like that. I currently have the Pioneer 105 as my mastser on my old computer with an old LG cd-rw burner and I have never had any problems that way but was wondering if I should be ok with two DVD burners on one computer. Thanks for any help. Also is there any tips that I should know to do.
    Thanks
    Eric

    Hi
I don't know about other's but i have always ran a dvd burner and cd burner on the same cable, and right now am running an NEC 3520A (dvd burner) as a master & a LITE-ON SOHW-812S (dvd burner) as slave and can burn both cd's & dvd's with both no problem.

  3. Noah, question can you burn 2 dvd's at the same time with your setup? I heard that it couldn't be done.

Hmmm... well, i used to use a program at the time, way back in the day before dvd burners, trying to remember the name of the program, but it was the only one at the time that would allow you to use multiple burners and i would burn 2 vcd's or cd's at the same time but they would be the same image.
I know you can open to diff. instances of Nero & DVD Decrypter at the same time and set them to do diff. things, so i don't see why not but i would not do real fast burns or other task's at the same time.

I'm gonna try it right now and see, gonna burn 2 diff. movies at once and see what happens.
Were you thinking of burning 2 of the same at once or 2 diff. movies ? at the same time ?

  5. It can be done, there's been discussions on it here before in the forums. Nero has an option to burn the same content to multiple recorders built in, and I've also run 2 instances of Decrypter at the same time burning different content before. It WORKS, however it's as much a novelty as it is a useful feature, as most systems will struggle at much faster than 4x burn speeds and you run the risk of burning coasters. Having said that, it's handy to make multiple copies at once from time to time when burning at 4x (8x was iffy on my system).

Yeah, i figured it would be iffy and pretty resource consuming on any system and i have never really had any reason to try it or want to 8)

I also thought there was an option in nero to do what you said steve, but on a quick glance through i did'nt see it

But i did open two instances of nero and have each one burning a diff. movie from my HDD right this minute

The buffer's are staying full but even though they are both burning at 8X they do seem to be taking a little longer ?? yep, definately!!!! they are only both at 50% done and the time that has elapsed is what it normaly takes 1- 8X burn to complete so you may as well stay with burning one at a time because it does not look any faster......

  7. Thanks Noah for testing that out. Very interesting results it looks like burning 2 dvd's at once is possible but coasters may be the end result.

  8. I am running two DVD burners from the same machine. at some times. The second drive in an an external firewire case. So far, each drive has been recognized and I've had no problems. The internal drive is a 16x DL Pacific Digital (really BENQ, I think) and the external drive is my old, reliable 1x Panasonic DVD-R/RAM drive in a $40 external drive case.

  10. Hi,

Yes, you can definately burn two discs at a time. I've run DRU500AX, DRU510A, Pioneer 105,106,107 and 108 at different times and in different combinations on my old computer / P4 2.4Gz, 845/ without any problems. I'm still running the DRU500AX and Pioneer 108 on my present PC without any problems whatsoever. Couple of things to avoid coasters when burning two at a time:
1/ Use the same media in both drives
2/ Don't record on -R and +R at the same time
3/ Last but not least use RecordNow DX 4.6 /check the option "Mix any drive"/

    Enjoy!

& this was pretty much all done until 9 day's later when someone decided to bring it up again and tell everyone it could be done... Thank You for your expertise... (i never made any such claim so stop trying to S.S.)

Alcohol 120% will burn on multiple drives. I'm building another machine, this one will have 4 burners (2 SATA, 2IDE), & 2 HDDs, 1.5GB RAM to support the transfer rate. I'll post when I get it up & test it on 4 at once burning - scan data, playback, etc.. I have burned on the 2 burners on my existing machine at 2X or 4X (limited by the speed of the slower drive - in this case Toshiba SDR5112), and have had no greater failure rate or variance in quality than burning one at a time.
