Are there any burners other than Plextor that support Karaoke recording? Karaoke's grahics subchannel requires a special function in the burner to record Karaoke discs. The only one that I am aware of that supports this function is Plextor.

You may be confusing a number of karaoke technologies:

    1. CD+G Karaoke: Requires authoring app that can format an audio track to include subcode material (R-W), CD burner that can burn the full 2448 kB sector (aka "DAO-96"), and also a player that can read and correctly decode the R-W subcode. Most can't.

    2. VideoCD Karaoke: Use subtitle creator apps listed <-- and hard-encode ("burn-in") subs onto the video along w/music, encoding to mpg, burn as standard VCD. Play on any VCD or most DVD players as usual. Doesn't need anything special in the way of CD burner.

    3. DVD Karaoke: Must have authoring apps that understand the special Karaoke features of the DVD spec (e.g. Scenarist, Maestro) and good multitrack audio editor to create the correct stems, but you're burning a DVD using the standard method, and so need just a standard DVD burner + app. Playing this correctly requires a DVD player that supports the special Karaoke features (e.g. Pioneer combo units).
