  1. I'm the not so happy owner of a PixelView G2 VIO card - it's a Geforce-2 MX card! I've been trying to capture some TV shows - however, I keep dropping frames like crazy

    It doesn't matter which resolution I use, nor does it matter the framrate I choose - I've even tried many different codecs (PicVideo2, DivX3.11, DivX4 etc. etc.) - But no matter what IT KEEPS DROPPING FRAMES!!!
    It drops approx. 4 frames for every second.

    I've tried many capture programs (VirtualDub, AviIO, AMcap, FreeVCR etc. etc.) - but nothing matters. I've tried testing the read/write speed of my hard-disk - the results are as follows:
    read = 16MB/s
    write= 15MB/s
    I guess this is not the problem then!

    My computer specs are as follows:
    --------------------------------------
    AMD Athlon (Thunderbird) 1Ghz
    ASUS A7V133-C KT133 socket A
    IBM Deskstar 60GXP
    PixelView G2 VIO - GeForce-2 MX 32MB
    256MB PC133

    I believe my computer shouldn't have any troubles with capturing - but it does !!!!!
    Please help a desperate man Any information/help on this matter would gradly be appreciated!!!

    Thanks!

  3. Hmmmmm Hammer,
    I don't know what to tell you man. I was going to assume that it was the capture program you are using but VirtualDUB is usually the savior. Now remember, capture is CPU dependent rather than video card dependant but you have a 1 gig processor so it shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure you have done this but install the latest drivers for your card. Then install Direct X 8.0a or 8.1 with the capture patch (you can get all this from the microsoft website). If it still fails I would go to google.com and type in dropping frames pixelview G2 vio and see what comes up. If all of that fails I would say return the card and try a different one. I know this is all common sense stuff but I hope some of it helps.

    Is it running on Windows XP ?
    If so, i've the same problem. I install an old W98SE 3.2Gb Quantum disk (just to try) and... no more drop frames. I've a P4, 1.7 Ghz and i'm capturing to a 40Gb IBM Deskstar.
