  1. thanks for the great site and tutorials!

ive had no need to post for almost 6 months, due to the abundance of information and resources here.

    great job!!!

so now my story... ive gotten pretty good at making my own DVDs, but im stuck on one...

i have a divx encoded avi with a variable bitrate audio track. the first couple hundred frames are bad or errored, and it causes my audio to be off by 7.536 seconds, i.e. i see it, then i hear it 7 and i half seconds later...

when i use divx2DVD, it drops the bad frams, and my flick is off. can i make divx2DVD start the audio at the bad frames, so i dont loose time?

i have ripped the stream in an uncompressed format and have it to the side.

i just dont understand how to make VirtualDubMod offset the audio.

i have all programs, sound forge, DVD arch., VDM... all the nessasary tools and codecs..

and my virtual dub mod doesnt update the input/output displays properly sometimes, like i hear the movie, but i dont see the film, which makes this all that much harder...

would DVD arch be easier to manipulate the audio and video together?

and would it work using goldwave to cut 7.536 seconds off the front of the uncompressed audio, or would that mess evrything up?

    thanks in advance!

in virtualdubmod go to streams (on the menu bar), then select Stream List. Select Add and add your uncompressed audio. Move it up to the top. Right-click and select interleaving. The bootom half of this dialgue is for correcting audio sync. Just enter you delay in milliseconds.

  4. one thing i dont uderstand is why media player classic knows to offset the audio, and Divx player still syncs the audio fine when i watch it on the computer...

so why doesnt the codec maintain that in Divx2DVD?

i suppose its not too important.

mats.hogberg has the right idea... never again.

but this movie rules, welcome to the layer cake son.

and thank you guns1inger.. that will work fine.

i guess i just never saw that... good call.

Playing and encoding are different beasts. The encoder needs every frame - just like a DVD might be playable, but can't be ripped because of read errors.

  6. first, thank you for the quick response..

i just wanted to come back and finish the thread..

the interleave offset function wasnt working for the 12.5 seconds the sync was off...

the audio was playing too early..

so, i tried to close the gap between the audio and video by opening the uncompressed .wav file in sound forge and adding 12 seconds to the intro of the track.

i then saved the file, and added it to the stream list in virtualdubmod ... compression>lameMP3>192K, 44.1

then the interleave function was utilized.. the track was still coming too soon, so i put a -450ms delay... close.

the second guess was the money shot.. -553 got all the door slamms and gun shots perfect...

    hope this may help someone...

Yes, trying to fix sync issues is often trial & error, making the rough comensation like you did, then tweak it to perfection.
    Was it worth all trouble?

  8. well, it was a learning experience, if anything..

i found it quite entertaining.. the process, not the movie.

the movie is a dead horse

i have the entire script memorized, and ill never watch it again unless some chick wants to see it...

but at least i know how to do it now...

i know ill never master DVD authoring 100%, but i can be a top seeded amature...
