  1. How can I ensure that my authored dvd will fit on a dvd-5 (4.37GB) or 4480MB when TDA measures discs as 4.7 and 8.5 GB respectively? My pre-authored files are fine as far as size, but when I author, bang always 4.68 GB, too big to actually fit.....used the calc program to determine bitrate and size is fine, but TDA authors files too large! HELP

    Hi mcpogue,

Are you using menus and chapters etc.? Do they have still and / or motion backgrounds? All of this takes up additional room on the disc and needs to be allowed for.

The difference between 4.37Gb and your 4.68Gb sounds about right for menus, chapters etc.

If you're encoding (you don't say where the MPEGs come from), then encode with a bitrate with the aim of getting an end filesize (video + audio) of 4Gb.

If you're not doing menus etc., then I'm not sure what's going on...

    Hope that helps.

No menus, no nothing at all? I'm not sure if, even in this case, there is an overhead - either just with TDA, or all DVD authoring apps.

    Running time of footage?

I think it might be something in TDA.
I did a movie that should have fit, TDA said it was just a touch over the limit for a dvd-5, i figured i would shrink it a hair after with dvdshrink, when i was done i checked it in dvdshrink and it said it was 100%, so i opened it in nero and it was actually under the dvd-5 limit.
So it must be TDA reporting some things as larger than they are.
I never had this heppen before, and i use TDA alot since it first came out, so i'm not sure why it happened.

I would run it and then see if it will fit with nero or W/E burning program you use.

Tda has an overhead of around 150-200mb so having a 4.17 gb project is safe for me.

TDA always complains of "over the limit" stuff with me. i had an m2v & an ac3 that totaled 4.32 gb. i authored it with TDA, with no menu, and TDA still complained.. the output files were 4.32gb as well.

one thing that might be screwing this guy over is motion menu's.. TDA hardly uses any space for regular picture menu's.. but 300+ mb sounds like motion menu's.

in the "create menu" section click the "menu settings display" button, it will bring up the "menu settings display" window, click on the "motion menu" tab & uncheck the "use motion menu" box & click OK,
