  1. Had two coasters recently.

wondering if anyone else have similar issues?

Recently aquired a pioneer 106D and had successfully burnt 5-10 dvd-+R @ 4X. Then while burning a video in Nero I got a coaster. Nero didn't catch any errors and said it was succesful. I thought oh well must a been a bad disk.

Then burning an audio cd-r again in Nero a coaster without an error. Now Im worried, haven't had cd-r coasters since buffer underun protection came out. I was suprised no software error occurred, and that it wasn't limited to DVD-R. NOTICE THE FUNKY RINGS!!!!! almost like laser went dead without notice...

Since the errors i have burned ~15 dvd-r @ 1X with no problems. But before that I had also uninstalled some DVD authoring programs.

Wondering if this could have been ASPI/software issues or hardware failure.

Any one have a clue? DVDs are to expensive for me to do a hundred writing tests, besides I returned the drive already just in case....

    hardware:
    512mb ram
    A7V 333 ASUS mobo
    1900+ athlon
    106d drive
    WD 100gig HD

    software
    Nero 5.5
    WinXP SP1
    firmware 105

  2. Hello,
I have the same problem only in 4X (no problem at 2X, and on cd-r). My burner make this since the begining, and i try to have a new one at shop (waranty).I use Princo media, my friend too, and he has burned hundred dvd without problems.
What is the manufacturer of your's media?
I've tried my burner on another computer: same problem, i've upgaded the firmware to 1.07 and tried 3 burning softs: same problem.
I think my burner is u/s.

    Bye and good luck.

if you will use princo or cmc magnetics (imation, memorex) you will have only trouble.....do not complain

i burned 500 riteks no problem at all...but of course to burn DVD-VIDEO at x4 cause trouble sometimes too.....so NEVER EVER BURN VIDEO x4 (of maximum speed of your burner)

always use slower speed x1 or x2(if burner is 4speed)..... and good DVD media (ritek is not so expensive)

The dyes are being destroyed instead of written to.
    The discs are garbage.

I see this a lot on cheap media.
Even good media like Optodisc is not immune to this.

Try something better. Buy Ritek or Maxell.

  5. I'm agree with you, Princo are not the best media on the market but the cheaper.
This problem of ring occur always at the same place on the media (like the first post), that why i think my burner have a problem, if not, this trouble can occur at any place (ink destroyed)?.
My friend have exactly the same (106d) and have no problem!
At this shop, hundred 106D have been sold and thousant princo too, i'm alone with this trouble (if i can thrust the seller).
Sure, it's best to burn at 1X or 2x, but i've bought a 4X speed!
It' s not easy to try with other media, it's difficult to find something else than princo (in my country). It' s possible but not available since 4 weeks, to buy Philips or Merorex, but princo is 1€ and others 3.5€, it' s not the same budjet.

    Thanks everybody.

  6. I had the same exact problem.....and nice pictures on your disks....just like mine.

I dropped the speed to 2x and the problems are gone.

My only guess is that I am using windows xp with patch 2.

I heard quite a few posts on this....eithers a known hardware bug...or software issue.

My other pioneer so far seems fine at 4x.

    firmware upgrades .....no impact.

well, I slow burn for now....no big deal
