Not a surprise really. The LG drives are quite decent, work well. Plus not many drives read/write RAM/R/RW, so there were never many candidates.

The switching power supply is the left hand board in the first photo. There appear to only be a handful of resistors. I wonder which are the culprits for the famous "loading" problem. Looks like the input circuits must be in one of the metal boxes because there are few chips on the main board.
On another thread, someone mentioned that JVC will not divulge the information necessary to fix the "loading" problem. That is a shame because the unit looks very accessible and easy to work on. -
That drive says HL at the top along with Tokyo Japan, at the bottom it says product of Malasia. It's not LG which is made in Korea. I was inside the drive, there are 2 ICs, both say JVC. I don't think the one I had looked like that, I don't remember a metal case, but it's been months, maybe I just don't remember the case.

Actually it is LG, Hitachi-LG to be specific. Here is a link to their company info.

Look inside the drive, both ICs say JVC. If it is LG it's a JVC drive manufactered by them. I've never seen anything LG/Goldstar manufactered in Malasia, it's all Korea. The drive says HL not HLDS.

Look at the logo on the drive and then look at the logo at the site for Hitachi-LG joint venture.

They do look the same. I don't think the one that I had used that drive, it wasn't in a metal case and it wasn't LG. Must be on the newer ones.

The manual for the M10 shows it can be set up for two dvd-ram drives, one by JVC, the other Hitachi-LG.
