avi coversion

frustrated female please help i am attempting to encode avi files so i can burn them to dvd, in the past i have used nero 6 with no problems but now i have tried nero6, roxio7, ulead movie factory 2 and vso divxtodvd and they all have the same problem about half way through the encoding my pc freezes no error messages come up it just stops and i have to restart if i am burning straight to disc there is no problem it is just if i have to convert first i have no problem with audio files

Try to DivFix the file first. If you rebuild the index 1st I find it cures many of the conversion problem. The files' index being damaged will sometimes allow it to play on your computer but hang up during processing. I use this free prog on all of my .AVI files to prevent problems. you can find this tool in the tools section. Good Luck

thanx for replying but it is not just the one avi movie that it is happening with i did try divxfix but no difference i have also checked the pc temp to make sure its not overheating and it seems fine. this has really got me stumped
