  1. Hi

I have a winfast pvr 2000 deluxe capture card and when I capture from either the tv or an external source (ie svideo) the captured file looks fine when played back with winfast software, but when I write it to a dvd, I get a sound video sync problem. The video starts off fine, but the more you get into the clip the further apart the sound and picture become.

I have tried to author a dvd in a number of ways. My prefered method would be TMPGEnc DVD Author, but I get a 'GOP is too long' message. If I ignore this, I can create the DVD but with the sound/video sync problem. I have tried reencoding the clip using TMPGEnc, in which case, I don't get the GOP error in the DVD Author, but I do still get the sync problem.

If I try using Ulead Video Studio 8, it refuses to create the DVD at all. Video Studio 6 will create the disc image and just at the end of the process, gives me a 'disc image' error.

I bought this card thinking I would be able to capture stuff off the TV and my VHS video camera straight off in DVD format and the create a DVD in minutes, but so far this is way off from the truth!!!

Any help would be very gratefully received as I am thinking of giving up and buying a DVD recorder.

    Thanks

    Jo

Most likely, your card is dropping frames, or your system is weak
in a certain area that deals with Audio.
    .
    * Could be a Driver or directX weakness.
    * Also, could look into seeing if there are *any* IRQ conflics.

    And, one more possibility..

Bare in mind, that your Winfast card is not a hardware mpeg card.
And, because of that, it' will have to cut corners. Therefore, it
could also be *these corners* that is causing the audio sync issues
    you are having.
    .
You do know that your Winfast offers (as you are using now) a real-time
mpeg encoding feature. Bare that in mind, when determining with the
    above comment.

  3. I have a WinFast card and the same problem but I've found a solution.

I'm capturing a large (4Gb) file using the WinFast PVR software set for DVD quality.

The MPEG file plays fine on Windows Media Player, the PVR software, Womble etc. Quality is excellent no dropped frames or sound-sync problems. Put it into TMPEGEnc Author or DVD-lab and the resulting DVD has sound sync problems. I've tried using Womble to edit and re-encode the MPEG file. Again, the resulting file plays back fine on all manner of players as an MPEG file but put it through TMPEGEnc Author or DVD-lab and sound-sync problems.

I don't like Ulead software much from past experience but the box came with DVD MovieFactory 2.5. This created a DVD without any sound-sync problems. Plays fine from start to finish. Problem: if you selet variable bit-rate, it won't go to the burn stage because of an "unspecified error."

So I downloaded the free trial version 4 from their web-site. No "unspecified errors" and no sound-sync problems. If your box included a version then you can buy the upgrade option from the web-site. It was certainly worth it for me. Much more basic, slower to re-encode (if doing so) and less control than DVD-lab but it's cheaper and I'm not wanting to make any fancy menus - I just want DVDs without sound-sync problems and this package did it for me.

Give the free trial a try and please post back here if it works ... and I'm curious if like me you're sourcing from a large MPEG file because I had no problems with TMPGEnc Author when the files were less than 1Gb so maybe some packages have a problem with larger files? I'd really be interested to know a proper explanation for this issue if anyone actually has one (as opposed to assuming it's our PCs being weak - the point is the MPEG file plays fine BEFORE going into the DVD authoring packages. So it's either the way the MPEG file has been created or the packages themselves not the PC hardware?)

  4. Just a short note regarding Ulead VideoStudio. I don't what other peoples' experience has been but I've used various Ulead software package on-and-off with various computers over the years. My experiences have not been good but DVD MovieFactory 4 seems okay so don't let your problems with VideoStudio put you off giving it a try.

  5. At this point, I'm now fairly certain that I must have said quite a few silly newbie things so, definitely, apologies all but would really like to read any good replies. I want to learn!

Anyway, I just realised that I didn't describe the problem much. It is that the sound-sync starts fine then gets progressively worse until it's a good few seconds behind the video after 90 minutes.

I promise not to make another consecutive post ever.

    Peace out.
