  2. Perhaps they need finalizing.
Maybe look at the software you are using and see if there is an option to finalize the disc - I'm not saying this will work but its probably worth checking.

  3. i thought a recordable disc was finalized automatically since it can't be written on again?

  4. What software are you using to create your home movies prior to burning.
Are you using Recordnow to burn the discs or WinDVD.
I say that because WinDVD is a player, or are you using something like WinDVD creator.
Give us some more information on the software and processes that you are using to create your movies.
Does your DVD player play copies (backups) of commercial DVD's.
You may want to check this just to see if your player can actually cope with recordable discs.

  5. Another method you could try is as follows:-

    1) Convert your home movies to a VIDEO_TS folder on your hard drive.

    2) Convert your VIDEO_TS folder to an ISO image using IMGTOOL or DVDSHRINK.

    3) Then burn the ISO image to DVDR using DVDdecrypter, this may make your home movies more compliant and maybe then they will play on your player.

Give it a try, I have used this method in the past and it has worked for me.

PS. will your movies that you have made, play on the PC. If so just rip the disc with DVDdecrypter in file mode to give you your VIDEO_TS folder.

Explicit step by step details are needed. Even if it sounds insignificant.

CDs can be burnt to in multiple sessions if you do not finalize. I do not believe you can do that on a DVD though.

I forgot to ask if you actually created a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder which you would then burn to DVD.

  8. i hace captured the video in windows movie maker or record now. edited the capture by adding scene transitions and adding titles and credits at the end. then i went to the next step and created the movie. again, either in record now or windows moviemaker. once i did t in .avi and the other time i tried to use high quality. i am a novice so i apologize if i'm using incorrect terms. i then burned the movie to disc using either record now or intervideo windvd. the software always says that the disc was created successfully.

  11. OK, then I suggest that you get some dvd+-rw discs and try the method I described earlier in my 3rd post.
When I started converting my home footage to DVD using certain DVD making software I had a similar problem with my DVD player not recognising the disc, so I did some short test DVD's and burnt them with DVDdecrypter and it made all the difference.

I ask again! Does the DVD you burned contaian an AUDIO_TS and a VDEIO_TS folder with files in it or did you just burn the rendered movie file to a dvd as data? That would play on your PC but not on your DVD standalone player ( except for a few that play avi and dixv )

  14. jtoolman2000 makes a valid point regarding the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders.
If you do decide to rip your move to hard drive with DVDdecrypter it will give you the VIDEO_TS folder but no AUDIO_TS folder.
You may need to create an AUDIO_TS folder alongside the VIDEO_TS folder before converting to an ISO image.
The AUDIO_TS folder doesn't need anything in it to work, its just required by certain DVD players to work correctly.
I suggest you try with and without the AUDIO_TS folder and see what works for you.

This most likely to be related too the dvd material you are using .

I've tried alot of different brands and the one that never ever fails is TDK dvd-r

Imation burns fine , yet the drive that created the disc cannot read it .
Verbitam , stable for data , but not good for video .
Magmedia - total crap , not a single disc for two spindles (20s) worked even though succesfully written too , dont buy them .
    Memorex - frisbies only here
Maxwell - yo , like i need a hole in the head , near useless
Radioshack - surprised the hell out of me these cheapies , 90% ok .

Tdk - for anything , never ever fails .

Just remmember , the slower the burn the better the fixation of the files is on the materail , burn at super fast speed , and expect troubles .

problem solved. i don't know why but, record now would not playback in the stand alone. win dvd creator works like a charm. thank you guys for all your help. i think i was burning the doisc as data instead of a playback dvd. whatever i was doing it works now. thanks again.
