  1. I put together an ATI 8500 All in Wonder equipped PC, Athon XP 2400+, 512mb. 160 GB HD, DVD player.

Right this minute I (hopefully) am capturing home movies from VCR to disk.

These are movies made in the '50s with an 8mm, then to Beta 20 years ago, then VHS 15 years ago, Basically most of the detail is gone.

I'm just saving to whatever format the ATI defaulted to, what format should I save to??

I want to burn it to DVD that can be played on most, or any player. What do I use and what format?

Can I "clean" up the video.

I'd like to ad a sound track, the sound an old movie projector makes.

    Any advice?

    Thanks

I just so excited that so far it's working..

You'll also want to look at the Capturing section:

  3. I would use a program such as Ulead VideoStudio to capture, edit, add color/picture enhancement, make menus and chapter points.
I would strongly recommend using an analog converter(eg Canopus) or camcoder to transfer via firewire then edit in DV-AVI.
Remember this:"garbage in,garbage out"...if the source quality is poor then there's little you can do to enhance it.
