Building an editing station needs the right choices (no kidding) ..so since I'm carefully purchasing every item I would like to get feedback on this please.

Ok, now the question: how do u decide what to buy when it comes to a tv monitor to be hooked to a Rtx100...meaning, do I HAVE to buy the outrageously expensive Industrial tv monitor, or is there any semi-pro options out there that can ensure accurate color correction results and multi format?

any recommendations? budget not abundant

A video monitor for post production is suposed to be a measurrement instument and calibration is important.

The PVM and BVM series from Sony (and equiv) are the pro versions. A broadcast quality LCD is still quite expensive because they are designed with broadcast phosphors and TV gamma.

For home I'm getting by with a 27" HD Ready consumer TV monitor. Calibration is a challange but resolution at 720x480 (and above) is excellent. While using a monitor for quality judgement, be sure all auto levels and auto color options are turned off. The idea is to see the actual signal being produced, not to have the monitor try to make it look pretty. Try to get a model that allows mode presets.

edDV i gotta question: as i said pro. monitor are way over my budget, so basically what u proposed sounded like what i am looking for ( HD with manual settings)... could u give me a brand with a good history and the price range if possible ( since u said u have one)

I haven't looked closely at current models. Over a year ago, I bought a closeout special CRT Philips 27PT830H from CompUSA for about $450 after rebate. It had defects (that I thoroughly documented) and I sent it back insisting on a full calibration in the Philips San Francisco Service Center. It came back with great registration, linearity and color bar performance. If you let them know you are a critical pest, you will get a decent calibration.

This model was being closed out being replaced with one with HDMI rather than VGA tuner input. The VGA has been working great with Power Strip software for computer 1080i/540p connection, but for monitoring my editing, I use either my ADVC-100 or an old Digital8 camcorder to bridge DV output preview (from Premiere, Vegas, Architect, etc.) to S-Video monitor inputs. The camcoder only puts out 0 IRE black. The ADVC-100 can output either 0 or 7.5 IRE black*.

The better low-end HD-Ready brands IMO are Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sony, Philips, ... Choose one by features, price and picture quality.

BTW:you will be amazed how good your DV camcorder material looks on a HD-Ready monitor.
