  1. CRT TV is 16".
CRT monitor is 17". But measures 16" physically.

Obviously, the monitor has superior colors and more pixels.

But when I watch a video on TV is looks better than it would on monitor when viewed at full screen. The quality is more clear.

    Why is this?

The higher resolution of the computer monitor reveals more noise. It is also a progressive display device, as opposed to interlaced display. Interlaced video will require active deinterlacing for playback, which can affect inherent quality, depending on the method and the software.

Your television CRT may have poor color quality to start with, or needs tweaking.

Some of this is discussed on various capturing guides on digitalFAQ.com

  3. A number of reasons:

    1. Monitors are far more accurate (hence their name) and will reveal all the defects in the source image even if both have the same resolution. TVs are designed to accept a wide range of signal qualities and display them in a visually acceptable manner.

    2. The phosphor dots in a TV emit light with a different response to the strength of the electron beam compared to a PC monitor. The same signal sent to a TV will have a richer color and contrast. On a PC monitor, the color looks washed out and the contrast is less.

    3. A TV will display an interlaced signal with interlacing. Unless you have the computer's monitor set to an interlaced mode, it will have to be deinterlaced and will lose some fluidity.

Note, 2 applies to traditionally Windows-based PCs. Mac-based monitors have the same response as TVs. It is also why many people are surprised when they edit a video on the computer, burn to DVD and then watch it on a TV or take a commercial DVD and watch in on a computer. Editing for a TV as the final destination should be monitored with a video monitor instead of a PC monitor.
