What codecs are in use for those MKV files? divx? xvid? Is the audio MP3/AAC/other?

What codecs are you using? (Divx/xvid/ffdshow/other)

    More info would be helpful.

It could be a codec/playback issue, it could also be a lack of processing power (I am unsure what the requirements are for playback of various encodes). (Codec Packs are BAD!)

If I recall, the K6 CPUs were not the best with multimedia. You could try killing unneeded backround processes. There is a huge difference between a 400MHz K6 and 2GHz P4.

Your notebook isnt powerful enough to play divx or xvid(ogm) smoothly, vcd can be played on 133 mhz computers smoothly.
