  1. I'm hunting like a beaver for a stand alone (Whether Portable or rackmountable) MP3 recorder.

I currently have a Nomad Jukebox 3 with 40Gb hard drive which works superbly, and if possible, woiuld like another, but on searching, it is unfortunately not available anymore.

Does anyone know of a good quality mp3 recorder, must record at 320kbps for more than 7 hours continuously. from a stereo source.
Whether onto a HDD or a large (ie 2Gb) memory card or internal storage.
Also any companies that will be able to deliver within the UK PDQ.

    Any help much appreciated.

  2. I think it's the wrong forum, but anyway.

Marantz PMD671 (with 2GB CF memory card or microdrive card):

  3. My iRiver H-140 can do this.

I can record directly to MP3 at any number of bitrates (up to 320 kbps) at a sample rate of 22/32/44.1 kHz from either inbuilt mic, external mic, line-in or optical-in.

It has a 40 Gb HDD.

I don't know if you can record for 7 hours continuously though... I've never tried that.

  4. The iRiver H140 manual sais:

    "Recording is automatically stopped if:
... When the recorded MP3 file size is over 195MB".

Source (open file with Acrobat Reader, then go to page 35):
    http://www.iriver.com/html/admin/etc/adet_download_process.asp?fileName=H140%20English...WNLOAD_UP_PATH

So, unfortunately a continuously 7 hour recording @ 320 kbps is not possible with that recorder. That, and the fact that the rechargable batteries cannot be exchanged easily, are the reasons why I would never buy this device.

  5. You are not going to find any portable HDD based MP3 player with replaceable batteries...

Perhaps you should invest in a cheap notebook or ultraportable and use a high quality USB soundcard or CardBus soundcard...
