This may be nothing new, but I've found it great. I keep a cheap MP3 recorder in my camera bag. When I want to pick up clear sounds from something some distance away, I place the MP3 player conveniently & add the sound track later. It's kind of like a remote microphone.

For example, if I'm filming a scene in a calm bay from some distance away & want water sounds, I'll have the MP3 player running simultaneously or at a later time very close to the water. Being so small, it's great to place or hide in convenient places to pick up the various sounds I want. Another example is if I'm filming birds. I can place the MP3 recorder on a bird feeder stand & get some great quality audio.

Nice trick! Very resourceful. I'm sure others will appreciate the suggestion.

Though the only down side is you'll have to reencode to mp2 or wav so that you can import it into a dvd project of course. BUT if you are using this for an internet video format such as divx than you can just leave it as mp3.

(though some mp3 recorders might let you record as wav but of course that will eat up more recording space)
