I know that you have to use DVD-RAM, but I cannot figure out how to record in 16:9. Does the source have to be 16:9 enhanced? Someone please help. Thanks.

I thinks it is enhanced. It just crops the 4:3 to look like a 16:9
    I may be wrong.

  3. You would have to send the Panasonic a "squeezed" anamorphic image through the analog video (composite or s-video) input. You can record to DVD-RW in compliant DVD format, or DVD-RAM if you like. This can easily be done with a digital camcorder that is playing back footage shot in 16:9 mode. For digital television sources, some HDTV set top boxes have a way to set their composite/s-video outputs to a downscaled, anamorphic squeezed 4:3 image derived from a HD source.

After recording the vertically squeezed 4:3 image to DVD, you would then need to rip the recording to your computer, demux the VOB/VRO file and use ReStream to save the .m2v video file again, but this time with a 16:9 flag. Remux the new .m2v with the audio file, author and burn another DVD, then check it out. Your DVD player will automatically unsqueeze the image and play back in 16:9 format.

Some DVD recorders that have firewire inputs (like my JVC) automatically record the 16:9 flag when sent DV camcorder footage that was shot in 16:9. A great feature that really works well!
