I have my dvd player hooked up to my tv via red/white outputs, and a dolby digital cable running to my receiver. In my dvd player setup options, I have RAW (dolby digital) output as opposed to PCM, now sound comes out both analog and digital outputs, but would the analog source benefit at all from switching from RAW to PCM when watching a dolby digital source? I hope that makes sense. Is PCM just for ppl who might have compatability issues from the default RAW output? Are the signals the same through red/white outputs in RAW and PCM?

The settings you speak of only affect the digital output. The option of pcm bitstream is there for those who haven't upgraded to a DolbyDigital capable decoder. But don't confuse the option with audio discs. By selecting raw and should you play an audio cd it would still output pcm. At least that how it works in my system.
