I notice when i author menu at 720 x 480 some of the outer edges do not show. Anyone here know the spec as to what demension will show on the tv screen?

Even you use 704x480 or 480x480 or 352x240 as standard spec, the outer edges still cut off when play in stand alone. And believe it or not different player, cut off different size. I do have APEX 660a and APEX 5131, APEX 5131 cut the border off more than APEX 660a does.
In your case, I recommend using 704x480 and add black border to all 4 side (as big as you think will be cut off when playing in your dvd player).
