  1. I've attempted to backup HoFD without success tonight, Shrink would'nt read the disk even with AnyDVD installed. I was able to make a backup using DVDDecrypter but when I tried to reauthor it with DVDShrink and burn with Nero my backup would'nt play because of an error.

Anyone succesfully manage to backup this movie?

I didn't have any problems in backing my copy up. I used DECRYPTER to rip then used DVDRB. You can try using VOBBLANKER to rip to your hard drive first.

  4. Update: I finally got it working, fortunately I have more than one computer in the house (5 to be exact). I copied the files I made with DVDDecrypter to my fastest machine and tried DVDShrink again to reduce the size of the movie. The 2nd time worked with no errors.

Sometimes there's such a thing as having TOO MUCH ripping software. AnyDVD has been known to interfere with DVD Decrypter, but luckily you can just right-click, exit.

  8. It's Tuesday's weekly, 'I can't back up this film-but I should have used Decrypter' topic

This happens every week. Answer is usually the same.

    Well, it went RELATIVELY smoothly.

An interesting note is that my version of VOBBlanker, which wasn't that old, utterly barfed on this disc - creating an output directory that was simply broken - none of the other tools would then touch it.

A quick download of the latest VOBBlanker (2.0.0.1) rectified the situation.

But yes, in general every week we get a post like this and the solution is ALWAYS to simply update your tools. DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, and VOBBlanker are all updated pretty much weekly.

I keep getting the feeling that I'm one of the few who has never used this VOBBlanker. You guys doing something special I don't know about?

  11. well you could use that or pay for dvd2one.
both do the same job really.
except on dvd2one,you pick the parts you want deleted, and it calls them cells, for films like this with arccos protection.

Amazing coincidence that Tuesday also is always Blockbuster's new releases movie rentals day.

And why is that? Can anyone explain why Tuesday was picked as "New Release day"? Not just Blockbuster, but all retail/rental outlets.

No idea, especially since places have the movies the week before. It's not like they need Monday to get them on the shelves or something.

    AS FOR VOB BLANKER...

I use it to "trim" movies. Even if you select "still image" from DVD Shrink, you still have a certain amount of space the title uses. Vobblanker actually... removes it. So I zap the previews, warnings, promos, studio ads, and any extras I don't want and that won't interfere with the functioning of the movie.

The downside is that it CAN create menu issues if you remove something that something else relies on - or if you then click on a menu option to go to something that's been removed. But for the most part it's handy, and frees up a couple hundred extra megs that otherwise wouldn't have been free.

  17. Tuesday is the new release day for music also. Not sure what is special about Tuesday.

  18. Things are a litle different now with the end of late fees thing, but I imagine the previous logic was to get them on the shelves durring the week when the store isn't quite as hectic as it is on the weekends, then with the 2-3 day rental deal they had on movies, most of them should be back in time for the weekend rush. That's just my guess though.

  19. Good guess...doesn't explain the music though. It's been a while since I bought a music album in the store, so I don't even know if it's still like that.

  20. Tuesday is also the Microsoft update day as well....hmmm something going on here?

Oh, and no problems here with DVDShrink and AnyDVD backing up HoFD.

That's right, I just had 6 criticals and 1 optional update.

  22. Simply, Tuesday is the slowest day of the week, and new releases get people into stores. Also, if an album or DVD is a huge hit, a store can order more copies before the weekend and get them shipped out to them that much sooner.

  23. Yeah, I agree, Tuesday is indeed the slowest day of the week.

How would you be able to tell that something else is relying on the thing you are about to delete, and if it will mess things up??

Most of the time you needn't worry - but don't try to blank out the "bullet time" or "follow the white rabbit" extras on the Matrix, for example. That's just begging for trouble.

Tuesday was picked for new movie/music releases because of the stock market crash in the 1930's. Haven't you heard of "Black Tuesday". Gee don't you guys know anything.
