I've been using VirtualDub to merge two avi files, followed by WinAvi to convert them to DVD. Then CloneDVD 2, to burn the completed movie. And everyting plays fine in the preview screens of both WinAvi and Clone 2. But when i put the burned disk into my dvd player... the picture goes all green and the screen is full of little squares. But the sound plays fine. Does anyone know what the solution is to this problem?

video_ts file? WTF?
No matter - How does it look if you play the DVD in your computer?

Well i set the options to Pal and 4:3 aspect ratio. I live in the Uk. I don't think on this occasion it's bad media... as if it were it would also be causing problems in my cd rom drive surely? It plays fine when i play the burnt dvd with my cd rom drive.

Bad media or bad burn.

I value all you guys help, but after playing the burned dvd sucsessfully without problems in my DVD ROM drive on my computer... does anyone have any ideas what is causing it to play only in green with the screen completely full of little squares when i put it in my dvd player? The dvd player works fine by the way, as it plays other discs with no problem at all.

However, if you click on a VTS_XX_1.VOB file (which IS a video object) it should play in Windows Media Player, or whatever other player you choose.ICBM target coordinates:

Please guys... i would appreciate it if you did'nt debate in my topic, so far there has been about 9 replies to me, but none of them have actually addressed my problem of Green screen with loads of little squares when i play the disc in my dvd player... with no problems when played on my dvd drive on my computer with power dvd software.
Any ideas? -
A green screen with lots of macroblocks usually indicates that the DVD player can NOT read the disc. Causes of this are:
1) Bad media
2) Bad burn
3) Bad player.
But since you say that these cannot be the case, I am stumped, probably like everyone else.ICBM target coordinates:

It's one thing after another with trying to make a dvd. I have never been able to make one sucsessfully. I used to use tmpgenc express and tmpgenc dvd author which to a rediculous amount of time... and even then the burned disk jumped when i played it in my player. I have tried 3 different types of discs too... and now i change the programme and i get a dvd that plays fine on my computer but not on my home dvd player.
But my home dvd player, plays rented or bought genuine dvds with no problem at all. I have no idea where i am going wrong...and this is getting so frustrating that it's actually giving me head aches.... could everyone that has made a sucessfull dvd up... please tell me what programmes they use, what writer they have, and what media they use. As i need to get to the bottom of this! -
Can your player even play DVD-/+R discs? Do your discs play on other machines?

I'd think it's better with a slow process that works, than a fast process that fails..

Try burning the disk at the lowest possible burn speed instead of the highest.
Does the green color appear at the beginning / end of the movie or is it all throughout the movie. When you pause the movie is the green color still present ?When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months. -
Tmpgenc did not work for me. It made jumps with three different types of media. And i konw people who's dvd's play fine with the same discs. The movie plays green with loads of little squares from start to finish regardless of pausing.... my player works fine as it can play genuine dvds fine.
I'm not sure if some sort of codec has caused the problem, as the dvd plays fine on my computer... but not the player. With tmpgenc i played but occasionally i had jumps that made the picture un watchable. I installed an ac3 decriptor to enable me to use virtual dub with my avi's... would this have caused the problem? -
I would try using the same DVDs to burn a copy of a movie using DVD Decrypter. If it plays the same way - green squares, etc - I would suspect either the media, the player, or the burner...in that order. If it plays fine then it's probably an error in your conversion or authoring process. Sounds like bad media or a failing player to me though.

I am trying to change an xvid to DVD and having sound sync issues. WinAvi is the only program that I didn't have sound sync issues with, but I also get the green squares on my screen when playing back on my standalone player. It's the same media, burner, and player I've been using for a while, but I only have the problems when using the winavi software.
