    Hi all,

A friend of mine has the exact same build as I have and is having real problems after initial boot. The only way to get his to boot is to reset the CMOS ..ie.. after use and shutdown he has to reset the CMOS before it will boot again. Also no video, when powering on after use there is no video, no post.

This is what I have tried to date:
    1. Replaced the video card with mine, no success.
    2. Replaced the RAM with mine, no success.
    3. Replaced the CPU with mine, no success.
    4. Replaced the power supply with mine, no success.
    5. Replaced the HHD, no success.

That said, I do not have any issues with my machine ???

Well, it's got me absolutely stumped, one would assume placing the components from mine into his would solve the problem, not so. I'm absolutely up against a brick wall and have no solution. I goooooooogled the problem and found there are many in the same situation, however, I haven't been able to find the answer to the problem.

    Cheers from downunder.

CMOS is on the motherboard, which is about the only component you didn't replace. I suspect something there is screwy.

The only thing left that would affect boot, would be the motherboard. You could start with the battery as noted above, otherwise it sounds like a hardware issue.

Thanks to everyone for taking time out, appreciated. You will not believe what was causing the problem and to think he made the same mistake twice. 3 x 256Mb RAM, one not correctly in the slot. I let him install the components as I am getting a bit long on the tooth. In his absence I had a look in Task Manager and noticed only 512Mb of RAM ..?.. should have been 768Mb. I re-installed all of his components and everything is now running as it should, thank Christ that's over.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.
