  1. this will probably be answered better if i just state the facts.....so:

~i downloaded 3 movies from a file sharing program
~i scanned them for viruses, watched them for any problems and came to the conclusion that they are in perfect condition.
~the movies are short, so i burned all 3 onto disc (with room to spare!).

    THE PROBLEM:

~the video will pause while the audio keeps playing

    SOLUTIONS I HAVE TRIED:

    ~cleaned the disc
    ~cleaned the dvd lens
    ~tried different dvd players
~made sure that the formats were compatible (which they are)

    any suggestions?

Movies don't carry virii, so that was a waste of time. We'll also assume for the moment that these films are in the public domian and there is not copyright issue with you having them.

What did you do to them ?
Did you convert them to DVD ? If so, how, with what, to what media.
If not, are they Divx, does your player play Divx, and are they correctly encoded for Divx playback on standalone players ?

Sounds like bad media. What brand are you using? I also hope the films are also in the public domain.

  4. nope, no copyright infringemet at all.

they were originally formatted as MPEG (.mpg), but when i went to burn them, Nero had me convert them to .vob

I would check to see what the bitrate of the original file is. Then see if the bitrate changed when you converted the mpg to vob. Could be that Nero did something to the mpg when the conversion was done.

  7. so that would cause the video to pause and the audio to keep playing?

If the video was resized and the bitrate was changed, this can occur. I would use gspot to check the bitrate of the original and converted files.

  9. okay....i've decided to burn them again.

all 3 are still on my hard drive and are .mpg formatted. i have DVD Decrypter, VOB Blanker and DVD Shrink 3.2 (as well as Nero)

can anyone give me a walkthrough on how to burn these 3 movies without running into the same problem as well as recommended dvd discs to use?

First you will need to Author the mpg's, look to the left under Author then choose a method to convert. I use TDA.

  11. Do Not use Nero to convert your MPEG to VOBs. Use TMPGEnc or any other encoder to convert the original MPEG files to DVD compliant MPEG-2 files. Play these files on your PC first to check whether there is any audio / video sync problem. Then use these DVD compliant MPEG-2 file to author the DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVDLab or any other tool.
