  1. Using an ATI AIW 9600 Pro card with Windows XP Home. Has been working perfectly for about four years. Yesterday, capturing from VCR, the image started failing in the preview window so I decided to stop recording.
I switched to another VCR with the same poor performance.
I also had some interesting glitches showing on the monitor screen.
Did a reboot and got an error message during the post, suggesting the overclocking was too high or something. I don't overclock.
Booted into bios and didn't see anything strange, so restarted the computer successfully.
The regular video still works fine, but the capture part only shows a very dim, distorted image of the VCR on-screen menu. Playing the tape results in an almost totally black image.

I set up the VCR on my other computer, using an older AIW card and it worked fine.

Question is, can only the capture part of a capture card go bad and still let the card function as a regular video card?

  2. I guess you're good for a uninstall/reinstall type of thingy regarding your software and drivers cards.

    Just my 2 cent

If after that if you're still in trouble i could assume the card is fried..somehow.

Try to identify what you did recently on your pc( installing new softwares or anything else) that may be a good beginning if you don't want to worsen the things.
