AVI DIVX to MPG or Video_TS

OK I'm having a heck of a time trying to convert an AVI DIVX into a regular DVD format.
1st try no sound
2nd try video won't play continuously only in second spurts then freeze until I press play again
Plus Quicktime doesn't know what format the MPG is in.
Using ffmpegX 0.0.9s

If your player has issues, use the "DVD mpeg2enc" preset.

Well that didn't work either.
I got 2 errors=
Near the beginning
INFO: [yuvscaler] Couldn't read FRAME header: bad header magic!
**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Couldn't read frame number 156146!
and at the end
**ERROR: [mplex] Unable to open file /Users//Movies/bourne.m2v for reading.

Apparently a corrupted frame, or a joined file. You may try to use the output of "DVD ffmpeg" as source of the "DVD mpeg2enc" encoding, or to avoid joining the AVI and encode each segment separately.
