Hi, I'm trying to convert an avi file and its .srt file to a video_ts file and then just straight out burn it onto a dvd by dragging the file into the blank dvd via Macintosh HD.
Ive tried converting to mpeg2enc and ffmpeg, but neither of them turned out as a video_ts folder.
The file I ended up with had an extension of ".avi.ff.mpg" and could not be opened with anything I tried, and definatly not compatible with a dvd player.
Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong? Also, I have 2 .avi files and 2 .srt files that are 1 movie. Once I convert both to 2 video_ts files, will it work to just put them both on a dvd, or will I have to do something special for them to work properly.
Thanks!

Okay , I got a video_ts folder by converting to DVD ffmpeg, but when I play it with DVD Player, Its extremely choppy. I only get a new frame when i pause it, or select a different application, and as far as far as I can tell, it didnt carry over the subtitles. It did get the audio, however, which is also from the .srt file.

The conversion should go in steps: First an .mpg file is created, which then is used to author a VIDEO_TS folder for use on a DVD, if the corresponding checkbox was marked to do so.
Try VLC media player to see if it plays your .mpg file. If it doesn't, then something went wrong before trying to create the VIDEO_TS folder, and that could explain why it was never authored.
You won't be able to use the Finder's disc burning option to create a good DVD, because the file system would not be right. DVD players want UDF, and not Mac/PC (HFS+/ISO 9660) hybrid discs. The workaround is to use third party software to create a UDF disk image (ffmpegX can do that), which may be burned with any software, including Apple's Disk Utility.
Each DVD can only have one VIDEO_TS folder. To get both movie parts on one disc, you need to merge them before authoring a VIDEO_TS folder.

Okay thnx for the reply, Case.
The mpg file that was created plays with vlc, although the subtitles arent there. When I encoded it I did the "Load subs" , so I'm not sure why thats not working.
Also, like I said, the video_ts is not working write when I load it with idvd. The sound plays fine, but the frame is only refreshed when i switch to another application or pause and unpause it.
Thirdly, I know how to merge 2 avi files, but I wouldnt I merge the 2 .srt files?
Edit: Just tried loading it with idvd again, and it plays fine for the first 10 seconds, but after that the frame refreshing dies.
