  1. i used AVI codec on a mpg i extracted from a svcd and it showed as MPG2 (SVCD DVD)
    but a mpg from SVCD is not same as DVD?
    dunno little bit confused.
    if i joined 2 of these authored them and burned them, i'm led to believe it would not work on standalone that does not play SVCDs.
    so why does it show as (SVCD DVD)?

    I guess maybe because both SVCD and DVD use MPEG2?

    SVCD and DVD uses different resolutions. SVCD is 480x480. This format is not a correct DVD format.

    You can however take an mpg from a SVCD and author it as DVD with some applications (DVD-Lab Pro) with a warning that it's not 100% DVD compatible. many (most) players will in fact have no problem with this.

    a DVD mpg and a SVCD mpg are both mpg2 but differ in resoulution and audio.
    is there an app that tells u if a mpg is DVD compatible or SVCD?
