Guys, I noticed that my drive (Optorite DD1203) is writing to my 8x TDK dvd-r at only 4x; This problem has come after a reformat. I thought that if you reformat it doesn't affect the firmware in the drive itself. I reflashed the drive with the latest firmware from the optorite website, but the problem still exists.
I thought maybe that the discs that burned at only 4x were perhaps the bad ones in the bunch. But this is the case with my cd-r's also. Before the reformat, I was reaching speeds up to 40x with my Memorex, now I only have the otion to write at 8x max with the same cd-r.
Any ideas? Do you guys know the tool that test your drive's speed and disc speed?

I would check to see if the Drive is stuck in PIO mode. It should be Ultra DMA. Check the device settings. You can always remove the drive from device manager then windows will reinstall the drive.
Also try looking here for help on the DMA

Your writer is the primary IDE controller? Any reasoning for not having your hard disk on the primary controller as a master and your writer on the secondary controller as a master if you only have two IDE devices? It's always been a good habit of mine to have the writer on a different controller than the hard disk if at all possible...

So what are you saying? I never had this problem until I switched from SP1 to Sp2
