  1. Hello,

Just purchased a new Compaq laptop and I'm trying to connect it to my wireless network.

It came preinstalled with XP SP2. It has builtin wireless port as well as an ethernet 10/100 jack. I'm able to open WEB sites.

When I connect via the ethernet jack, the laptop sees the internet fine.

When I connect via wireless to my SSID (unprotected), it sees the internet fine. I'm able to open WEB sites as if I'm physically connected using the jack.

When I connect via wireless to my SSID (and WEP using a passphase-encrypted), I get the "limited or no..." message. Connection is not established.

If I go back and turn WEP off (unprotect), my laptop connects fine (wireless). Of course I do not want to leave my network unprotected.

I triple checked the passphase and the "key" position on my router and on the wireless connection that was created on the laptop. I cannot see any differences.

I really believe there is a conflict with SP2 and wireless networking. Researching the 'net has indicated others (alot of others) have experienced the same problem as me. Yet I cannot see a workaround. MS on-line help is a joke.

    Has anyone solved this problem?

  3. yes, I can only get it to work with turning the encryption off.

Right now I'm using mac address filtering to control who connects wirelessly.

    thanks
