Hello to all,
I have just purchased the AVIA home theather guide on DVD. Since I never use the original DVD, I went to make a copy using DVDXCOPY (I know you guys don't like it, but it works for me - until now). When the disk is being read, it halts with many i/o disk read errors. The original disk works in all my standalone DVD players, so its not a faulty disk. After alot of reading on this site, I tried using DVDdecryptor - with the ignore read errors option set. I still get so many errors, that the copy actually never works.
Any suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

This is not news.
Try using better software like dvddecrypter and dvdshrink. -
If you read the above statement that I made, I also tried DVDdecryptor and obtained the same error regarding read errors. Any other suggestions

I had a disc that had about 300mb of unreadable data - tested on four different drives.
I took the DVD drive out of my stand-alone player and it read it first time, no errors. -
Have you tried a simple copy using a non-decrypter copier like Easy CD creator?
I don't think it is an encrypted disc, at least mine isn't and that is what they claimed on their web site. I made backups of mine without any errors. -
Actually no I haven't.. I just figured that this disc would be copied protected.
I will try tonight and post results
Thank you all -
If the disc has any scratches, that could be the problem. It may play in stand alone but you will have a nightmare of a time copying

That test dvd has no encryption on it so you can use nero or any burning app , I know I did with no trouble at all.

The fact that you can PLAY a disc on a standalone DVD player does not really tell much of anything as to its condition. There are standalone players which are very, very "forgiving" of dirt, smudges, fingerprints, smudges, etc. I have seen dozens of discs which played fine in players, and also in DVD-Rom drives on a computer, but then ran into I/O errors when trying to rip because of dirt and grime, or because of scratches.
There is no special copy protection on Avia. I backed mine up, since it is (dolllar for dollar) the wisest investment I have made in my entire collection. It is, quite literally, the "best $45 I spent on my home theater."
Your original disc needs some tender loving care and treatment. Do a search, to find the best ways of cleaning, and then bypassing any more serious damage which this disc might have.

Thank you all for the replies..
It turned out to be a bad disc (original).. I had the manufacturer send me another and it copied fine with Nero.
Thx
