  1. I have had this problem since i got svcd2dvd.. avi loads fine then starts to convert... either crashes at around 10-15% with an ffmeg error or after a few mins says avi2mpeg done and then compiles dvd thus resulting in a 10-15 min dvd instead of full film.
I have formatted my hard drive and reinstalled and added more ram (now 512 was 256) but still getting this error.. here is the lateset log:

  2. After many hours searching net i found this about Data Execution Prevention and problems with programmes .... I have tried it and it still crashes on ffmeg around 18%... it may help someone else though...
I`m still looking for an answer !!!!!!

You can manually configure this by following these steps:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    In Classic View, double-click System.
Click the Advanced tab, click Performance, and then click Settings.
In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Data Execution Prevention tab.
Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select, and then click Add.
In the Open dialog box, locate and select the application, and then click Open.
Click Apply, and then click OK. A prompt appears and informs you that you must restart your system for the setting to take effect. Click

DEP should not be an issue any more (since RC3 i think). RC6 should be out today... maybe it won't crash with that. If it does i will take a look at the avi myself.

  4. Just tried again with RC6 ... this time errored at 8% same again FFmeg error, click dont send to microsoft then svcd2dvd carries on and compiles the dvd obviously .. its short...
I think there is something with my CPU causing the problem i have tried vsodivxtodvd and this crashes aswell. i have formatted my cpu reinstalled XP and added SP2 , added more RAM and i`m still getting errors... what else on my Comp could cause this /?????

    Thanks

  6. Could the CPU Temperature be causing my problems ???? Does SVCD use more CPU convertinf AVI files than SVCD ??

Chrissyboy i didnt upload the file because it happens on every avi file i have tried , not only in this program but others... it your program it crashes out saying ffmpeg error ... in others i have tried comp shuts down and restarts..

I came across a program that tells you your temperatures so i checked them .

CPU temp - 40 oc at start prgram not running... when program starts to convert the avi files it gradulally rises...the highest i viewed it at was 83 oc , then had to leave , when i returned it had crashed with the ffmeg error... could the temp of the cpu get to high and that could be what is causing me this problem?????

BTW i have ordered a new heatsing and fan, so fingers crossed when i install them then i will be abnle to use this software with avi`s aswell as svcd`s

  7. 83 oc seems really high to me. I am running an Athlon processor which should run hotter than your Pentium and I rarely see temps above 45C under load. Is your case well vented with plenty of airflow?

EDIT: Yes, there will be more CPU use for an AVI than SVCD, remember that with an SVCD only the audio gets changed and DVD NAV packs are added. Rendering an AVI to another format is very CPU intensive as well as memory intensive. Have you done any other conversions (TMPGENC, CCE, Procoder) on this PC before?

  8. The case is well ventilated... side is off at moment!! tried that to see if that would work... In the past i have convereted with TMPEG, then all of a sudden it would not work... I have no probs svcd to dvd... just avi to dvd.. recentley i have tried :

    SVCD2MPG - crashes on ffmpeg
VSO DIVXtoDVD - crashes and comp reboots
NERO - Occasionally works for short avi files ( TV eps) to vcd other times it crashes and comp reboots
TMPEG - crashes and comp reboots

I really believe its the CPU causing these probs,,, hopefully when i get new heatsink and fan probs will be sorted..

I had a similar problem recently. It turned out to be bad frames in the original .avi crashing the encoder. The only cure was to edit out the offending segment before encoding.

  10. I have checked for bad frames.... and this is not the problem... its with every avi file and every converting tool... these files have been checked on other PC`s... That is why i think it may be the CPU over heating.. Will repost when i have fitted new fan and heatsink to let you know the results
