how come after i refomat my comp the transfer between my c drive and other drives is ok, but after a while it eventually slows. even unzipping things on the main drive becomes a hassle, and takes forever. now on the other end, my slave drives in the comp trasfer fast and everything i unzip on them unzip quick....i understand that all the programs and everything running on the main drive may have some affect, but i dont think it should take this big a blow...keep in mind that everything on my comp is running perfectly, no viruses or trojans or spyware, im just having this minute problem...holla back

You're going to have to determine the bottleneck with a before and after snapshot to know for sure, especially if the culprit can't be immediately identified. If you just want to try and hit a big target in hopes of rectifying, you can check out the BlackViper site for turning off unused XP services.

    Other things -

Uninstall apps you no longer use.

Google for NTREGOPT - it will compact the registry after you've removed your unused applications.

Download StartupCPL from http://www.mlin.net and disable any apps you don't need to start upon bootup.

    Defragment your drives

Ensure your drive channels are set to UltraDMA

CTRL-ALT-DEL and look for any apps which may be taking up lots of CPU cycles or RAM. Certain apps can get stuck, like Explorer.exe, Acrord32, etc.

Run AdAware of Spybot to remove possible spyware.

Archive files you no longer access on all your drives to CD or DVD. The less files, the better. ALWAYS keep your available disk space to at least 20% free.
