    Hello,
I am attempting to capture a VHS with a Kworld card (conexant chipset) under Win MCE. If I 'set custom format' to anything larger than 320x240 in VDubMod I get an 'unsupported video format' error.
Suggestions for resolving or other capture software that might work better a very apperciated, I've been struggling with this for a long time.
    Thanx

  2. Change the colourspace to RGB. This can take up far more room on the hard drive.
Try virtualVCR or FreeVCR with the Huffyuv or Picvideo mjpeg codec.

I don't know if you have the same chip as mine but I have a Hauppauge WinTV go which can only cap at 240 lines with the Hauppauge drivers. I have to use the BTwincap drivers to cap at higher resolutions. http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/

BTwincap is 712x480 for NTSC captures.

I'm not sure what it is for PAL but it is a little different ... the height is 576 but the width is something other than 712 ... but it's been a while since I captured PAL using BTwincap drivers so I've forgotten.

You might want to take a look at the following website regarding aspect ratio for BT based capture cards: CLICK HERE

    P.S.
Give iuVCR a try ... it seems to work really well and is fairly cheap. VirtualVCR is totally free but doesn't keep A/V sync 100% for all of us but when it works it works well yet nothing is more annoying that A/V sync issues.

Install the btwincap drivers. You may lost that way your tuner capabilities

Install the wdm2vfm wrapper. This is neccessary for virtualdub (and any variation).

Set the colourspace to YUV or YUV2 or something close. Set capture the higher you can (768 x 576). Another alternative is to capture at 696 x 576, add 4 lines each side and resize to 352 x 576 later. But IMHO you won't notice visually a difference if you capture straight at 768 x 576 and then resize to whatever you wish. The aspect ratio is slighty wrong, but noone really notice it!

A better software for your case, is virtualVCR. Captures direct using wdm drivers and with excellent results. It is freeware too...

  6. This problem is well known and there's no fix for it. You can try installing the wdm2vfw wrapper, but it didn't work on my system and may not work on yours. Trying another capture program merely crashed my system. I've had to learn to live with 320 x 240 if I want to capture via VirtualDub to my Leadtek card.

The best solution is probably to get a second card -- the Hauppage would work. It's cheap. Or a used ATI AIW, preferably an older model -- that wouldn't also solve your problem. My Leadtek PCI cap card works well, but doesn't do everything. If I want to capture in real time using VDub, the Leadtek won't cut it except at the unacceptable 320 x 240.
