Desperate for some help here I have a childrens DVD to put together for a party next weekend
I am trying to capture from VHS video to my computer.
I purchased a Pinnacle Studio Movie Box (my first mistake i know) which states
"capture analogue with ease from any source"
Set up is scart lead from video recorder with 2 audio and 1 S video on the other end going into Pinnacle Capture box. From there a USB2 into my computer.
Have tried to capture to both Adobe Premiere Elements and Studio 10 without any luck .
Both programmes state no valid input signal detected - check cables or something similar.
I have tried two different computers and two different video recorders with no luck
I have also of course checked my wiring.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the usb drivers that came with the kit as well.
Spoke to Pinnacle help team and despite 40 minutes of checking settings i still cannot gwtr it to work
If anyone has any inspiration i would be very grateful ,
Mike

Besides suggesting using their software for capture I can't help you except to tell you to return it and get something that works, by your post I'm assuming you read some of the same reviews I have by others. Doesn't seem any of the Pinnacle capture devices work well....
Do you by any chance have a mini-dv cam? Some models can be used for capture. -
You say you are using a scart lead to 2 phono and an S-Video plug, is it a scart out or scart in lead? Scart connectors can be used either way, as inputs or outputs, but leads are made to use one or the other but not both. For example, a scart lead, or adapter supplied with a camcorder, will be using the video and audio IN pins in the scart connector so you can play your camcorder back through the TV.
I would suggest you are trying to use a scart cable intended for feeding audio and video INTO a scart equipped peice of equipment but you need one where the cables are connected to the OUTPUT pins in the scart plug. -
Richard G that sounds highly likely .
I was sold the lead by someone at Curry's who told me it was the right one.
it's a JVC (Vc 1351) and it says "connects your TV or amplifier to your DVD or VCR.
Scart to 2 phono + S-video cable
My guess is i may want the one that works the other way ? -
The early "Pinnacle Studio Movie Box" units connected either USB or IEEE-1394.
Pinnacle has been cleverly changing the specs under the same name to prevent external people like us from exposing or correcting their errors.
If you want to witness the agony of hell, visit the Pinnacle support forums where brave souls try to cover the situation. I think they do this in exchange for free hardware. -
The capture box i have is a 510-USB Rev 2
It has inputs for f/wire Video S-Video and 2 audio .
I am going to go to a computer fair tomorrow to try and get a different lead . -

Yes found out on the Adobe Forum that it won't support Premiere .
Software is Studio 10 and it is all installed

According the Currys website, the cable you have (JVC VC J351) is switchable. This means that it can be used to either input to or output from a scart equipped unit. The switch on the unit needs to be set to OUT so the cables are connected to the output pins in the scart plug.
As you are using S-Video, make sure the capture software is looking for a signal on the S-Video port and not the composite port.
