    I am trying to burn on Samsung Pleomax +R 8x discs but both, Nero 6 and DVD decrypter, only allow me to write at 4x. DVD Decrypter even identifies the media as being 4x. I know that my DVD writer is capable of 8x because I burned Sony 8x discs before.

    Any idea why this is happening?

    The firmware of the burner needs to be updated to enable 8x burning for that particular dvd,check with samsung if they have a newer firmware,if not you are out of luck.
