I have allot of home videos. I have done it before but am having problems using the TDK DVD-R discs. I have copied a short movie from VHS to a DVD-R disc. It plays fine on the DVD recorder with TV. However, when I put the DVD into my computer, my drive does not recognize it.
Does anyone know what am I doing wrong. Also, is there a way to add 4 short VHS home movies and put them all on one DVD-R disc?
A couple years ago I was successful making my movies but I used Sony DVD+RW discs. But I would rather use these TDK DVD-R discs if possible since I have so many.

you must "finalize" the dvd-r discs for them to play in other devices

You should be able to use your DVD recorder to add to a DVD-R that has not yet been finalized, if there is still enough room for more recordings.
If you still have your movies stored on DVD-RW, you should copy them to DVD-R or DVD+R discs as soon as possible. Re-writable media is only good for temporary storage. The recording layer of re-writable DVD media is a phase-change material. It will eventually return to its original state over time, and the data contained on the disc will be lost. -
Dear october262:
I was trying to finalize the dvd-r. I must be using the wrong method. I put the DVD-R in my DVD drive on my computer and it does not read it or acknowledge the DVD is in the player.
Do I finalize it from my PC or while it is still in the VHS/DVD recorder? -

You have to finalize the disc in the recorder that 'created' it.
(Edit: just a moment too slow)

Thank you Mike and Ai: Okay I will need to finalize it in the DVD recorder. However, I only have 30 min. of a short movie in Chapter 1 of the DVD and I want to fill the DVD with more before I finalize the DVD. This is where I am coming into difficulties. When I am on the next video frame, I put the next short VHS movie into the VCR and I click "Play" and then I click the "Dubbing" button just like I did when I copied the first movie, but for some reason, the Dubbing button blinks a few time and then stops and will not copy. Does anyone know why?

Well these DVD-R's are doing what I want them to do in the recorder so I am going to go another route. I am going to try to make a full DVD+RW of family videos and then try copying the DVD+RW to a DVD-R. I hope this works.
