  1. I have sony VCR but no remote control. My TV remote control can control the VCR by entering the correct code and selecting VCR mdoe, but it cannot enter to Setup menu. Now I want to buy a universal remote control but I worry about whether it can call up the SETUP menu. Anyone have experience?

  3. Inexpensive universal remotes typically only provide the most commonly used functions. I doubt you'll have much luck there.

Even a learning remote won't do you any good because you don't have the original remote.

An expensive programable remote (the kind that shows virtual buttons on an LCD screen) would support most (if not all) of the features of the device, but I don't know how you'd find out before buying one. If you're in the market for one of those, check the manufaqcturer's web site to see if it lists the functions the remote supports for your VCD (though frankly, for the price of one of those remotes, you could buy yourself a new VCR).

  4. Buy a learning remote. Run down to Best Buy (or wherever), find a similar Sony VCR and program the remote.

  6. You might also try eBay. I've had good luck finding replacements there. If the VCR was a popular model you might have a shot.

  7. Get a One For All, it will operate the menus.
