  1. Hi There,

I'm looking for a tool that will allow me to extract a specified amount of footage from a DVD in AVI/Divx format. For example if you wanted just to take a favourite scene out of a film.

I have tried DVD2AVI but this creates two files, one for audio and one for video. I have tried Virtualdub but the clip I want is over the join of two vobs so I'd need to join two AVIs together. Also the sound goes out of sync with Virtualdub.

I have tried most of the free tools on this website. Basically I need to specify in and out frames and then output these as an AVI. I need to be able to control compression settings for video and audio, and the output resolution size as well. It's not important to take this straight from the disc. I'm happy to rip the DVD first if necessary.

I wouldn't have thought such a tool would be so hard to find.

    Cheers.

  2. Have you tried using VobEdit to join the vob files, then VirtualdubMod to save what you want(via in/out points) as an avi? If your audio is out of sync, theirs a couple of things to do. you can demux the audio directly from the vob as .ac3 or .wav and add it back in with video editing/authroing software of your choice. I personally use Premier to do these kind of things, but i'm sure there is an easy free way to do it as well.
I have not used VobEdit, but from the tools section it sais it joins vob's and it's free. I have used VirtualDubMod to extract dvd scenes...and that works good for me.

  3. If you are willing to go with commercial software, you can take a look at Cinematize. I think it will do more or less what you want.

  5. Since you are happy to rip. Then I suggest

    1. Rip your DVD with DVDDecrypter
    2. Use DVD Shrink with "no compression" setting to extract footage you want. Chapter wise or frame wise. Select no file split option to get one VOB for easy handling.
    3. Use VirtualDubMod to load your VOB file and convert to AVI.

  6. Many thanks for that. Will try the DVD shrink way and see how that goes.
