  1. I use Gordion Knot to rip most of my dvds, and it got me to thinking. Could I use it to rip R2 dvds and then re-burn those .vob's into either a region 1 or all region disc?

-How would I go about doing it, if theres anything special Id have to do from my regular Gordion Knot ripping guide? (see GKnot ILLUSTRATED GUIDE (DVDtoAVI) v.11 by dap & js)

-If I cant rip R2 dvds to be burned as another region dvd, could I still rip that R2 dvd to be converted as a watchable divx on my comp?

    Thanks

Don't know about Gordion Knot but with DVD Decrypter you can rip a DVD and burn it as any Region or Region free.

  3. To use DVDDecrypter with a region-mismatched disc, I think you need to flash your drive to be region-free. Take a look at the firmware site to find the appropriate firmware for your drive.

If flashing your drive bothers you, I think you can use AnyDVD to decode even region-mismatched discs on the fly and burn them to a new region-free disc.

Yikes! Looks like Im gonna have some research to do. Especially since Im not sure what dvd-rom I have in my comp and the 'List Hrdware Devices' is only giving me a serial number.

    Thanks

I think DVD Shrink has a option of setting a Region or to leave it as Region Free

Nope. Your wrong. DVD decrypter can rip any region dvd no matter what region the drive is. No need to use any hacked firmware. And yes it can burn it back to another disc at any region you want.

Keep in mind that if its a region 2 from Europe it will be PAL wich is not supported by alot of US players.

  7. D.A.R.J.R., you are right-- DVDDecrypter will work on a region mismatched disc. The only caveat is that in this case it has to crack the encryption instead of just requesting the key. This is sometimes a problem if the encrypted portion is very short (e.g. a menu file).

Finding Nemo is an example of a disc that gave a lot of people trouble when trying to rip with region mismatch.
