the questions that bother me the most is when they say they have a problem, but give not even the smallest details about the issue..


its like calling tech support and saying something is wrong with your computer, but not telling them what is wrong, what you were doing that brought you to the issue, etc..

What i really hate is when people asked the too obvious questions. such questions just require common sense and you dont need to know anything about computers to understand them.

one such example is (beleive it or not, asked many times):

to someone who is clued up that's a stupid question but to someone who isn't techie brained (the majority) then it's just a harmless enquiry

there's plenty of stupid questions that do sometimes actually have a stupid answer so there's no harm in asking

you probably would need to know something about cd/dvd burners and if people are asking that then they obviously don't know . My guess is these people are completely new to the DVD backup world and want to check the obvious as sometimes the obvious isn't obvious

have you ever heard the question can I play a CD in a DVD ROM/player?. The answer is obvioulsy yes but some people I've met didn't realise this. I never like to make a person with inferior knowledge feel inferior to me, unless it's a mate who can take a joke. I also don't like to see those making fun of people asking 'dumb' questions as that may not reflect that person character and nature

I've heard and hear plenty of stupid questions. Hell I even ask some myself once in a while when my lips start working without my brain but that doesn't mean I'm stupid, far from it

I still think that can I burn a DVD with a CD burner is a 'harmless' question no matter what anyone says and it doesn't annoy me in any way at all

I used the latest ( Anything ) and still can't copy,,,,,

I tried DVD ( Insert program name ) and in won't accept my file.
Why not simply say,,,

I loaded a totally incompatible set of files created Lord knows how, using Lord know what decoder, at a totally ridiculous non compliant resolution, in fact, they are all at different resolutions not even close to being standard and damn it, it won't let me make a VCD on my DVD blank on my CD burner!

This one is not a ? per se but just gripe.
And yes, I do have a bit of free time this week and that's why I feel like wasting it on this bit of a rant.

Now we are all aware that DVD burners as well as blank media are ridiculously cheap. If you can't afford to get into the basics of DVD copying and Burning ( Shrink and Dcrypter are bothe FREE ) It is my oppinion you have no business getting into this game. Why then are so many of the questions being asked are having to do with Non DVD conversions. Who in their right mind would ever want to view one of those beauties on their priced TV set after a hard day in the office.
And half the time, you know damn well they downloaded some piece of crap Divx or Xvid illegal movie from some ???? site. They now spend untold hours of work and effort trying to make something out of this "Fine" example of the art of digital video. Has it ever occured to them that if they would simply just BUY the silly movie, they would be able to back it up with minimal effort, many times to an undetectable high qualtiy copy. I did that for years as well. Backing up all my dvds to divx. Now that's is not even an option.

I usually answer, "Yes", and then leave.
Invariably some doo-gooder will come along with a 3 page explanation of why they use (insert noob POS software here) and why it's the best, and they should ONLY use this one, and they should pay for it, and it will solve ALL your problems you're having with (insert all the other software the poster has NEVER tried here).

I have Pentium one with integrated 8 Mb video ( in the MoBo mind you) I also have 32 MBs of ram. If that enough to do high end on the fly conversions to MPG2 directly from my 8mm camera? Unless "I'm missing something" here ( one of my top favorite stupid statements ) I seem to be getting a ton of dropped frames in my Capture ( it's not a capture - it is a transfer you loon ). I've searched for a guide in this forum ( you did not, you liar - you are asking for totally free help and you know it. Stop the lies! ) and by the way, I also want to create Hollywood style menus but I don't know how. can someone here teach me and show me where I can download a good menu making program ( IT'S Authoring - Please repeat after me Author,,,,, )

I gotta go with MackemX on this one. Asking if you can burn a dvd on a cd burner is not a stupid question for someone who is just begining. At least no more so than asking if you can burn a cd on a dvd burner. An example, relating to small engines. A good friend of mine who has a small business, was asked by a customer about using a certain kind of lubricant on the air filter. After he telling him and him leaving, he turns to me and says "I cant get over how stupid people are" Common sense tells you to use this weight of oil on a filter. I said, I must not have a lick of common sense, cause I didn't know that. He say's, anyone who knows anything about small engines, knows that. If his customers knew what he knew, he wouldn't be in business. My point being, it's common sense to those who are familiar with the craft. Newbie's gotta start somewhere.

This rocket scientist downloaded some video from some RIC and then prodeeded to convert it to a dvd. So he thought. Lord knows what the specs of this downloaded masterpiece were, cause that part of story apparently was NOT IMPORTANT enough to share!!!! You see guys and gals, you NEED to tell people these things in order for them to be able to help you. If you do not, we are going to play tag about 5-6 times back and forth, pulling your teeth until finally the mental cloud evaporates and someone says,,,, AH, now I know why you can't get this masterpiece to work. You should do this and,,,
