What is this Rare Music I keep hearing about

Every web site I visit there is talk from people that say they only like rare music. What is rare music? How does a song become rare? I hear a lot of complaints regarding the top 50 too (popular music I guess)100 songs. Will these songs become rare one day? Is there a web site that you can go to listen to some of this rare music? How did these songs become rare? Who are some of the popular, or not so popular rare music artist? Can a rare music artist be popular?

Never heard the term before. Maybe the mean they just like bands nobody they know has heard of before.

I myself have been accused to specificly seeking out bands no one has heard of just to "be cool".

In fact its just a natural progression to me. As I get more displeased with the tripe on commerical radio I found myself using the internets to sample new stuff. Because of this I have pretty eclectic (sp?) taste and often I get blown away by some band that you may or may not have heard of before.

Anyway thats what I think, its a term for non mainstream or non popular bands. Just a guess though.

I too like having music before anyone else just to show off. I look for up and coming artist, but when I pick them they're in the top 10 or 20 before you know it.
